API keys

Revoke an API key

Revokes a key.

DELETE/keys/{id}

Revokes a key. The revocation is immediate: the next request presenting that secret gets 401. The row is soft-deleted, so the key disappears from GET /keys and returns 404 from GET /keys/{id} afterwards, and the id is never reused.

This is irreversible - there is no undelete, and the secret was never recoverable in the first place. If you need continuity, create the replacement key first, deploy it, watch lastUsedAt on the old key stop advancing, and only then revoke.

A key cannot revoke itself: passing the id of the key making the request fails with 409 auth.self_mutation_forbidden. Use a second key, or revoke from the dashboard.

The response body echoes the revoked key's id and name. It does not include a deleted boolean - that shape belongs to DELETE /webhooks/{id}.

A key.deleted event is emitted to any webhook endpoint subscribed to it.

Requires the keys:write scope.

curl --request DELETE \
  --url 'https://api.envless.cloud/keys/<id>' \
  --header 'Authorization: Bearer ev_sk_xxxxxxxxxxxx'
Try itDELETEhttps://api.envless.cloud/keys/{id}
Path parameters

Authorization

  • Authorizationstringrequiredheader

Bearer token: an Envless API key (ev_sk_…), created in the dashboard or with POST /keys. The key is bound to one workspace; every request runs inside it.

Path parameters

  • idstringrequireduuid

The key's id (UUIDv7). Keys have no slug form.

Responses

200OK

Revoke an API key succeeded.

  • successbooleanrequired
  • codeintegerrequired

The HTTP status of this response, repeated in the body.

    Show child attributesHide child attributes
    • idstringrequired

      The revoked key's id.

    • namestringrequired

The revoked key's label, echoed back for audit logs.

Error envelope

Every failure below returns the same shape with success: false; branch on error.code, never on message.

  • successbooleanrequired
  • codeintegerrequired

The HTTP status of this response, repeated in the body.

  • messagestringrequired
  • errorobjectrequired

Machine-readable failure detail. Null on success.

    • codeenum<string>required

Stable error code. Branch on this, never on message.

    • resourcestring

The resource or scope the failure relates to.

The request field that caused the failure.

  • dataobject | nullrequired

Null on most failures. A plan limit carries { limit, current }.

401Unauthorized

  • auth.api_key_required - the Authorization header is missing, or its value does not start with ev_sk_.
  • auth.api_key_not_found - the key is unknown, inactive or revoked.
  • auth.api_key_user_missing - the key is valid but its owner no longer exists.
  • auth.api_key_owner_not_member - the key's owner is no longer a member of the key's workspace.

403Forbidden

  • auth.key_project_restricted - the calling key is fenced to specific projects; key management is workspace-wide and has no project dimension.
  • auth.workspace_two_factor_required - the workspace requires two-factor authentication and the key's owner has not turned it on.
  • auth.scope_missing - the key lacks a scope this operation requires; error.resource names it.

404Not Found

key.not_found - no live key with that id exists in this workspace, or it was already revoked.

409Conflict

auth.self_mutation_forbidden - the key is trying to revoke itself.

500Internal Server Error

server.error - an unexpected error; retry with backoff.

503Service Unavailable

server.error - the API is in maintenance mode or is missing its configuration; retry with backoff.
