POST/members

Sends an email invitation to join the workspace. This does not create a member: it creates a pending invite that appears in GET /invites and becomes a member only when the recipient accepts. The response payload is therefore an Invite, not a Member, and the status is 201.

roleId is required and must be a role id from GET /roles - the id field of a role, not its name. The owner system role cannot be handed out by invite; pick admin, viewer or one of your custom roles.

The invite email is sent synchronously. If delivery fails the invite is rolled back and you get a 500, so a 201 means the email was accepted by the provider. Invites expire 3 days after they are sent, and the recipient gets one reminder email 24 hours before that. Emails are normalised to lowercase. Emits member.invited.

Seats are plan-limited and pending invites count against the limit: Free and Dev workspaces allow 1 member total, so on those plans every invite fails with 409 until the workspace upgrades; Team allows 10 members and Enterprise is unlimited.

400Bad Request

request.body_invalid - email or roleId is missing or malformed.

401Unauthorized

auth.api_key_required - the Authorization header is missing, or its value does not start with ev_sk_.
auth.api_key_not_found - the key is unknown, inactive or revoked.
auth.api_key_user_missing - the key is valid but its owner no longer exists.
auth.api_key_owner_not_member - the key's owner is no longer a member of the key's workspace.

402Payment Required

member.seat_limit - the workspace has used every seat on its plan.

403Forbidden

auth.scope_missing - the key lacks members:write.
auth.workspace_two_factor_required - the workspace requires two-factor authentication and the key's owner has not turned it on.

404Not Found

role.not_found - no role in this workspace matches roleId.

409Conflict

member.self_invite - the key owner tried to invite their own address.
member.already_exists - that user is already a member.
invite.already_pending - an invite for that address is already outstanding.
role.owner_not_assignable - roleId is the owner role, which cannot be granted by invite.

413Payload Too Large

request.body_too_large - the request body is larger than 1 MiB (1,048,576 bytes).

500Internal Server Error

server.error - an unexpected error; retry with backoff.

503Service Unavailable
